Start Exercising

Daily exercise can help improve your back pain, but you have to do the right type of exercise. Stretching can help strengthen your back and therefore improve your back pain as well. If you are overweight, exercising can help you lose weight and improve your back pain. If you are carrying extra weight around, it can cause extra stress on your back, so losing weight is in your best interest. You should stick with low-impact exercises, or do yoga, which stretches the body and works to elongate your muscles, while also strengthening the body.

Change Your Posture

If you have lower back pain, you may have changed your posture to cope with the pain. You need to be sure you are standing with your shoulders directly above your hips, not hunched over. The same goes for when you sit — you should be sitting straight up and not hunched over. If you sit a lot at work, you need to be sure you make adjustments to your desk and your computer to avoid hunching. Hunching can cause too much strain on the lower back and on the shoulders as well.
